If you are planning to bring your parents or grandparents to Canada, you might be wondering about the difference between a visitor visa and a super visa. Both of these visas allow foreign nationals to visit Canada for a certain period of time, but there are some key differences you need to know before you apply. In this blog post, we’ll help you understand the difference between a visitor visa and a super visa, and help you decide which one is right for you.

Visitor Visa

A visitor visa is a temporary visa that allows foreign nationals to visit Canada for up to six months. This is the most common type of visa that people use to visit Canada for tourism, business, or to visit family and friends. To apply for a visitor visa, you need to provide the following:

- Proof of your purpose of visit
- Proof of funds to support yourself during your stay in Canada
- A valid passport
- A clean criminal record
- A letter of invitation from a host in Canada (optional)

The processing time for a visitor visa application can vary, but it usually takes around one to two months. If your application is approved, you will be issued a visa that allows you to stay in Canada for up to six months.

Super Visa

A super visa is a long-term visa that allows parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents to stay in Canada for up to two years at a time, without the need to renew their status. This visa is ideal for those who want to stay in Canada for an extended period of time to spend time with their loved ones. To apply for a super visa, you need to provide the following:

- Proof of your relationship to the Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- A letter of invitation from the Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- Proof that the Canadian citizen or permanent resident meets the minimum necessary income (MNI) threshold
- A clean criminal record
- A medical exam

The processing time for a super visa application is usually around eight weeks. If your application is approved, you will be issued a multiple-entry visa that allows you to stay in Canada for up to two years at a time, for a total validity period of up to 10 years.

Which One Should You Choose?

If you are planning to stay in Canada for a short period of time, a visitor visa is the right choice for you. However, if you want to stay in Canada for an extended period of time to spend time with your loved ones, a super visa is the better option. Keep in mind that the super visa requirements are more stringent, and you will need to provide more documentation to apply.
